John Ray, the HeartSongs Ceremonies Minister, explains the basis for the name of his ministry, and the philosophy of approach for the weddings he leads: “The quote above, by Rumi, has been a favorite of mine ever since I first read it, although I found out years later I had memorized is slighty wrong. Rumi used the words “Love story” instead of “Love song”, but it actually points to a truth I believe whichever way it is read. I believe that this happens to all humans. When we hear about love for the first time, something within us opens up and we begin to search for Love. I think it is our hearts that open and we start the journey to find another who can hear our HeartSong and understand it. And when two people hear each other’s song, they fall in love. For some it comes like a lightning flash….love at first sight, as we say. But for most of us, it takes time to listen and to open our hearts to another. When that happens, and our love deepens, we choose to make a formal statement to each other, to our families and to the world. We have found the one.”
